Kfar Shalem - Hatikva
childhood memories
oil on paper
(unframed yet - An ongoing 5 units project)

I grew up in a poor neighberhood in Tel Aviv called “Kfar Shalem” (= whole village), close to “Hatikva” (=hope) neighborhood; ironic names, don’t you think?
I spent my childhood on the line of those two neighborhoods, and for too long I was ashamed to tell others; I didn't want to be judged, or worse, pitied.
one day it hit me - I can not be who I truly am without the acceptance of the places that shaped my personality.
Thanks to the house I grew up in, I became who I am; thanks to the difficulties that surrounded me I became a warrior.

This oil on paper opens a portal to one of the places I’ve been to a lot as a child - “Hatikva” market.
I love the Market; The colors, the fragrances, the food and the beautiful people who live their lives with authenticity, without putting a filter of perfection to get the sympathy of society.
I highly recommend you come visit.

Each player starts with 15 pieces (=discs) in ether black or white. The aim is to "bear off" your discs before the opponent does.
This board game was a 'must have' in my neighborhood, as checkers marked the beginning of our weekends

the graffiti of rabbi Nachman of Breslev/ Uman can be found on many buildings in Israel; especially in the more religious neighborhoods like mine was.
